Start where you live.

Each Stafford election district chooses one supervisor. That district also has an appointed Planning Commission seat. Together, those two positions shape taxes, budgets, land use, infrastructure and the first public review of many development proposals.

Two bodies, different authority.

ELECTED

Board of Supervisors

The seven-member Board enacts county laws and policies, adopts the budget, sets tax rates and makes final decisions on many land-use cases. Supervisors serve four-year terms from single-member districts.

APPOINTED

Planning Commission

The Commission reviews the Comprehensive Plan and many zoning matters, holds public hearings and sends recommendations to the Board. A recommendation is not the final Board vote.
